On Wednesday, Looking Local presented at the NAFAO conference in Birmingham to discuss the BetterCare: Financial Assessment solution.
Product owner, Dr Lianne Hawkins, discussed the benefits of digitising the financial assessment process. BetterCare has been live in Kirklees Council since January 2017 and is currently being deployed with a number of other Local Authorities across the country.
Some of the highlights from Kirklees Council include:
Failed care packages reduced by 50%
- Moving financial assessments earlier in the process gives users an earlier indication of their likely financial contributions, helping their decisions around care and support. Since 2017, Kirklees Council has reduced their failed care packages by 50%.
80% of customers are now fully self serve
- At Kirklees Council, the 80% shift to self-serve has freed up Financial Care Assessment Officers to deal with vulnerable and complex cases. Subsequently, this shift has improved efficiency with the Financial Assessment team and completely eliminated their backlog of cases.
Home visits dropped from 100% to 2%
- The online form reduces the need for home visits and paper administration costs. The inbuilt guidance and remote advocacy tools have empowered users to self-complete their assessments with remote support from family, friends or staff.
This shift has seen considerable savings and has freed up officer resources to be focused on the more complex and vulnerable cases, giving the customers who are most in need the support they require.
Having spoken at the NAFAO conference, we are now looking forward to our next show and tell event, which will also be in Birmingham, on Thursday 27th June. This event will give delegates the opportunity to hear about BetterCare: Financial Assessment as well as network with delegates from other Local Authorities.
